IIT Delhi PhD, PG Admissions for International Students Open

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , at 4 PM. Prospective students can apply online via the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.

Eligibility and Application Requirements

The institute welcomes applications from non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a statement or self-declaration of English language proficiency.

Candidates are also required to provide the names of two referees. These referees will be contacted to comment on the applicant’s aptitude, field-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking skills, and English communication abilities, according to the official notification.

Admission Criteria and Testing

Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International examination scores such as Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also accepted.

Further requirements include scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. The institute may accept other language tests as well.

Selection Process

Final admission will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to an interview. A committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline will conduct these interviews.
