Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026, at 4 PM .
Admissions Overview
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible. Applications are for the academic year 2026-27. Interested students must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal atinternational.iitd.ac.in.
Application Requirements
Applicants need to provide a statement or self-declaration of English language proficiency. They must also list two referees who can submit recommendation letters. These referees will be assessed on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English skills.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates may need to submit scores from standardized tests. Accepted scores include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE for PhD and PG programs. International test scores like Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also considered.
Proof of English proficiency is required. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination. Candidates may also submit scores from other recognized language tests.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Students with strong academic records will be invited for interviews with a faculty committee from the relevant department. The interview assesses overall suitability for the program.
