IIT Delhi PhD/PG Admissions for International Students Open

IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m. Prospective students can submit their applications online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.

Eligibility and Requirements

Applications are open to non-Indian nationals. This includes candidates holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. This requires a written statement or self-declaration of their language skills. Candidates also need to provide the names of two referees for recommendation letters.

The referees’ recommendations will address the applicant’s aptitude, field-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking skills, and English language abilities, according to an official notification.

Academic Qualifications and Admissions

Eligibility for PhD and PG programs at IIT Delhi may require scores from national entrance examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program.

International examination scores are also considered. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Applicants might also need to submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or the Cambridge English Examination.

Selection Process

IIT Delhi will base admissions on candidate performance in an interview. Students with strong academic records will be invited to interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline.
