IIT Delhi opened admissions for international students to its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs on February 15, 2024. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 .
Admissions Overview
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, can apply. Applications are processed through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in. The portal closes at 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026.
Eligibility and Requirements
Applicants must submit a statement of English proficiency. They also need to provide names of two referees for recommendation letters. Referees will assess candidates’ aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.
To be eligible, candidates may need to submit scores from standardized tests. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE for PhD and PG programs.
International exam scores such as Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also considered. Furthermore, applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency through tests like TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
Admission is based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records receive interview invitations. The interview panel consists of faculty members from the relevant disciplines.
