IIT Delhi is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m. Prospective students can submit their applications online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
The application window is open for the academic year 2026-27. Non-Indian nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. This can be done through a self-declaration. They also need to provide the names of two referees who can submit recommendation letters.
These referees will be asked to evaluate candidates on their aptitude, field-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking skills, and English language ability, both written and oral.
IIT Delhi may require scores from national-level entrance examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program.
International examination scores are also considered. Accepted tests include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Additional English language proficiency test scores may be required. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination, among others.
Selection Process
Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs will be based on an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline.
The interview committee will assess the candidate’s suitability for the program.
