IIT Delhi is accepting applications for PhD and postgraduate programs from international students. The deadline for applications is March 30, 2026 .
Foreign nationals, including Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cardholders, can apply. Applications are open for the 2026-27 academic year .
Interested students must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal: international.iitd.ac.in . The portal closes at 4 PM on March 30, 2026.
Admission Requirements
Applicants need to submit a statement of English proficiency. They must also provide names of two referees for recommendation letters. Referees will assess candidates’ aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English skills.
IIT Delhi may require scores from national or international entrance exams. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), and Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE).
International exam scores like Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) can also be submitted. Applicants might also need to provide scores from English language proficiency tests.
Accepted English tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other equivalent tests may also be accepted.
Selection Process
Final admission is based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant discipline.
