The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 .
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Applications are being processed through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal atinternational.iitd.ac.in.
Application Process and Requirements
Applicants must submit a statement or self-declaration of English proficiency. The application also requires the names of two referees who will provide recommendation letters. These referees will be asked to comment on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, and English communication skills.
Admission to PhD and PG programs may require scores from national entrance examinations. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International applicants can also submit scores from tests like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Applicants with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. Additionally, proof of English language proficiency is mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
