IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m. Interested candidates can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Eligibility and Requirements
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must declare their English language proficiency. They also need to provide names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
The referees will assess candidates on their aptitude, field-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills, according to the institute. Admission will be based on performance in an interview with a faculty committee.
Academic Qualifications and Scores
Candidates may need to submit scores from standardized tests. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE for PhD and PG programs.
International examination scores may also be considered. These include Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Proficiency in English will be assessed through tests like TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.
Application Process
The application window for foreign national candidates is now open. It will close on March 30, 2026. The academic session for admitted students will be 2026-27.
IIT Delhi will invite candidates with strong academic records for an interview. This interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline.
