IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students Open

IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 .

Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Applications must be submitted through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.

The portal will close at 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026 . Applicants need to provide a self-declaration of English proficiency. They must also nominate two referees who will submit recommendation letters.

Referees will assess candidates on aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. This information is according to the official admission notification.

Admission Requirements

Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from national entrance examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Department of Science and Technology’s Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program.

International examination scores are also accepted. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).

Candidates must also submit scores from recognized English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination, among others.

Selection Process

IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Those with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline.
