IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 . Applications are being accepted for the 2026-27 academic year.
Admission Requirements for International Students
Foreign nationals are eligible. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. This can be done through a self-declaration. Two referees will be required to provide recommendation letters.
These referees will assess candidates on aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. Official notification states, “The referees will be asked to comment on the candidate’s overall aptitude, proficiency in chosen field, potential for research and independent thinking and proficiency in oral and written English.”
Academic and Language Test Scores
Candidates may need to submit scores from specific entrance examinations. For PhD and PG programs, this can include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International examination scores like Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also accepted.
Proof of English language proficiency is mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be considered.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will base admissions on candidate performance in an interview. Students with strong academic records will be invited. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant discipline. The institute states, “Candidates with a strong academic record will be invited for an interview with a committee comprising faculty members of the relevant discipline.”

Applications are submitted through IIT Delhi’s official admissions portal for international students. The website is international.iitd.ac.in . The portal closes at 4:00 PM on March 30, 2026.
