Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Prospective students can apply online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Details
The application window for foreign nationals will remain open until 4:00 PM on March 30, 2026. This applies to admissions for the academic year 2026-27.
Eligibility Criteria
Non-Indian citizens are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. They will need to submit a self-declaration of their English language skills. Additionally, candidates must provide the names of two referees who can submit recommendation letters.
The official notification states referees will assess a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.
Required Examinations
For PhD and PG programs, candidates may need to submit scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) tests, University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program.
International examination scores are also considered. These include scores from the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will base admissions on candidate performance during an interview. Students with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. Applicants may also need to submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination, among others.
