IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 .
Prospective students can submit their applications online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in. The portal will close at 4 p.m. on the application deadline.
The institute accepts applications from non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must provide a statement declaring their English proficiency. They also need to submit the names of two individuals who will provide recommendation letters.
These referees will be asked to assess the candidate’s aptitude, field-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking abilities, and English language skills. This information is detailed in the official notification.
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International tests like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be considered.
In addition, candidates might need to submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
Admission decisions are based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline.
