The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for international students to its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. Applications are open until March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m. for the academic year 2026-27. Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply.
Admission Process for International Students
Prospective students must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in. The application window closes on March 30, 2026.
Applicants need to provide a statement on their English proficiency. They must also nominate two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will comment on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.
Eligibility and Requirements
To be considered for PhD and PG programs, candidates may need to submit scores from national entrance exams such as the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) scheme.
International examinations like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be accepted. Additionally, applicants must submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination, among others.
Selection Criteria
IIT Delhi will base admissions on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline.
