The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 , by 4 p.m. Interested candidates can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Eligibility
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must provide a statement or self-declaration of their English proficiency. They also need to list two referees who can submit recommendation letters.
Reference Requirements
Referees will be asked to evaluate candidates on their overall aptitude, subject-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking skills, and English language ability in both written and oral forms.
Academic Qualifications and Scores
Admission to PhD and PG programs may require scores from national-level Indian entrance exams. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) tests, University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program.
IIT Delhi also accepts scores from international standardized tests. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
English Proficiency Tests
Applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examinations. Other recognized language tests may also be considered.
Selection Process
Admission is primarily based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee in their chosen discipline.
