IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students 2026

IIT Delhi is now accepting applications from international students for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 .

Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Admissions are open for the academic year 2026-27.

Interested applicants must submit a statement declaring their English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two individuals who will submit recommendation letters on their behalf. These referees will be contacted to comment on the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, and English language skills.

Admission Requirements

IIT Delhi requires candidates to submit scores from specific entrance examinations. For PhD and PG programs, these may include:

  • Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
  • Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
  • University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
  • DST INSPIRE

International standardized test scores are also accepted. These include:

  • Graduate Records Examination (GRE)
  • Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)

English language proficiency must be demonstrated through scores from tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.

Selection Process

Final admission will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with a strong academic record will receive an invitation to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. The interview will assess their suitability for the program.

Applications can be submitted through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in . The portal closes at 4 PM on March 30, 2026.
