IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students 2026

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application window closes on March 30, 2026, at 4 p.m. Eligible foreign nationals can apply online at international.iitd.ac.in for the academic year 2026-27.

Eligibility and Application Requirements

Applications are open to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a self-declaration of English language proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.

Referees will evaluate candidates on their aptitude, field-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English oral and written skills, according to official notifications. Some candidates may need to submit scores from national-level entrance exams.

Required Examination Scores

For PhD and PG programs, candidates might be required to submit scores from exams such as:

  • Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
  • Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
  • University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
  • DST INSPIRE

International examination scores are also considered. These include:

  • Graduate Records Examination (GRE)
  • Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)

Proficiency in English will be assessed through standardized tests. Accepted tests include:

  • TOEFL
  • IELTS
  • TOEIC
  • OPI
  • OPIC
  • Cambridge English Examination
  • Other equivalent language tests

Admission Process

IIT Delhi will base admissions on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline.
