The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 .
Admission Details
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, can apply. Applications are for the academic year 2026-27. Interested candidates must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
The portal will close at 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026. Applicants need to submit a statement of English proficiency. They must also provide the names of two referees for recommendation letters.
Reference Requirements
Referees will be asked to evaluate a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. This information is detailed in the official notification.
Eligibility Criteria
Admission to PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include:
- Indian Tests: Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE.
- International Tests: Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Candidates must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be considered.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will base admissions on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview. This interview will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline.
