Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications for its PhD and Master’s degree programs. Foreign national students can apply until March 30, 2026 .
Applications are open for the academic year 2026-27. Prospective students should visit the official admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in. The portal closes at 4 PM on the application deadline.
Eligibility Criteria
The institute welcomes applications from non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards.
Applicants must submit a self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees. These referees will submit recommendation letters for the applicant.
The referees’ comments will focus on the candidate’s overall aptitude. They will also assess proficiency in the chosen field. Potential for research and independent thinking are key areas of evaluation. English language proficiency, both written and oral, will also be reviewed.
Admission Process
Admission requirements may include scores from standardized tests. These can include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). Scores from Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) are also accepted.
The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program is another potential qualification. International examination scores are also considered. These include Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their interview performance. Students with strong academic records will receive interview invitations. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline.
Candidates must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other recognized language tests may also be accepted.
