The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Prospective students can submit their applications online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility and Application Requirements
Foreign nationals, including Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cardholders, are eligible to apply. Applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency. This can be done through a self-declaration statement.
The application process requires candidates to provide the names of two referees. These referees will be contacted to provide letters of recommendation. Their comments will focus on the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills, according to official notification.
For admission to PhD and PG programs, IIT Delhi may also require scores from national or international standardized tests. These can include:
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
- Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
- University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
- DST INSPIRE
- Graduate Records Examination (GRE)
- Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)
Additionally, applicants must submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination, among others.
Admission Process
IIT Delhi will base admissions on candidate performance during an interview. Students with strong academic records will be invited to participate in interviews. These interviews will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline. The interview panel will assess the candidates’ suitability for the program.
The application portal will close at 4:00 PM on March 30, 2026 . Interested international students should ensure all required documents and scores are submitted before this deadline.
