Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened applications for international students seeking admission to PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs for the 2026-27 academic year. The application deadline is March 30, 2026, at 4 PM .
Eligibility and Application Process
Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Applications must be submitted through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Applicants must provide a self-declaration of English language proficiency. They also need to name two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will assess the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.
Admission Requirements
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These can include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the DST INSPIRE program.
International examination scores are also considered. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Applicants must also submit scores from English proficiency tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Criteria
Admission is based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. The interview panel evaluates candidates for their suitability for advanced study and research.
