IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students Open

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 .

Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, can apply. Applications are for the academic year 2026-27. Interested students must apply online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in. The portal closes at 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must provide a statement of English proficiency. They also need to list two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will assess a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, and English skills.

IIT Delhi may require scores from standardized tests. These include:

  • Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
  • Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
  • University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
  • DST INSPIRE

International examination scores are also considered. These include Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).

English language proficiency test scores are mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.

Selection Process

Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs is based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited. An interview committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline will conduct the selection. The committee will evaluate candidates for their suitability for the chosen program.
