IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students – Apply by March 30

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 .

Admissions Overview

Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Applications are being accepted for the academic year 2026-27. Prospective students can submit their applications online via the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal atinternational.iitd.ac.in.

The application window closes at 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026 . This is for admission to both PhD and PG coursework.

Application Requirements

Applicants must provide a self-declaration of English language proficiency. They also need to nominate two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will be asked to evaluate the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English skills, according to the official notification.

Admission to PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include:

  • National Exams: Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE.
  • International Exams: Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).

International students may also need to submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.

Selection Process

IIT Delhi will base admissions on candidate performance in an interview. Students with a strong academic background will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline.
