The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application portal closes on March 30, 2026, at 4:00 PM .
Admissions Open for International Students
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. The academic year for which admissions are open is 2026-27. Interested candidates must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website at international.iitd.ac.in .
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit a statement of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees. These referees will be contacted to provide recommendations. The recommendations will assess a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.
IIT Delhi may require scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International students may also submit scores from tests like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Candidates are also required to submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination, among others.
Admission Process
Admission decisions will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to an interview panel. This panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline.
