Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs for international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 .
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, can apply. Admissions are for the academic year 2026-27. Interested applicants must visit the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in to submit their applications.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must provide a statement or self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to name two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will assess the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include:
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
- Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
- University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
- DST INSPIRE
- Graduate Records Examination (GRE)
- Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)
International students may also need to submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Applicants with a strong academic record will be invited to interview with a faculty committee in their chosen discipline. The interview committee will evaluate candidates for admission.
The application portal closes at 4 PM on March 30, 2026 . Prospective students should ensure all required documents and test scores are submitted before this deadline.
