IIT Delhi is accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 .
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible. Applications are processed through the institute’s official website at international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Process
The application window closes at 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026 . Applicants must submit a self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
Referees will assess a candidate’s aptitude, field-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking skills, and English language abilities. This information is detailed in the admission notification.
Eligibility and Requirements
To be considered for PhD and PG programs at IIT Delhi, candidates may need to submit scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) scheme.
International examination scores like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also accepted. Additionally, proof of English language proficiency is required. This can be demonstrated through scores from tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or the Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Criteria
Admission decisions will be based on performance during an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline.
