The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened applications for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs. Applications are now being accepted from international students for the academic year 2026-27.
The application portal for foreign nationals will remain open until March 30, 2026 . Interested students can apply online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website at international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility Criteria
Non-Indian nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. This can be done through a self-declaration. Candidates will also need to provide names of two referees.
Referees will assess candidates on aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. This assessment will be communicated via recommendation letters.
Admission Process
IIT Delhi may require scores from standardized tests. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE for PhD and PG programs.
International examination scores like Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be considered. Applicants must submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
Admission will be based on performance in an interview. A committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline will conduct interviews. Candidates with strong academic records are invited for this stage. The institute will select students based on this evaluation.
