IIT Delhi is now accepting applications for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 . Applications are open for the academic year 2026-27.
Eligibility and Application
Foreign nationals are eligible. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. They need to provide a self-declaration of their English skills. Names of two referees who can provide recommendation letters are also required.
Referees will be contacted to evaluate a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills, according to the institute’s notification.
Admission Requirements
Candidates may need to submit scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International exams like Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be considered.
English language proficiency test scores are mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
Admission is based on interview performance. Students with strong academic records will receive interview invitations. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant discipline. They will assess the candidate’s suitability for the program.
