IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students Open

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate programs. Foreign nationals can apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in .

The application window closes on March 30, 2026, at 4 p.m. Students seeking admission for the academic years 2026-27 should submit their applications before this deadline.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility extends to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency.

Candidates must submit a self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees. These referees will be contacted to submit recommendation letters.

Referee Recommendations

Referees will assess candidates on their aptitude, field-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and oral and written English skills. This information is detailed in the official admission notification.

Admission Requirements

Specific standardized test scores may be required. For PhD and PG programs, IIT Delhi may request scores from tests like the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). Other accepted tests include Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), and DST INSPIRE.

International students may submit scores from exams like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Applicants must also provide scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.

Selection Process

IIT Delhi will admit students based on their performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. The interview committee will evaluate candidates for suitability for the program.
