The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Interested candidates can apply online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Eligibility
Applications are open to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. The portal will close at 4 pm on March 30, 2026.
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit a statement or self-declaration of English proficiency. They will also need to provide the names of two referees. These referees will be contacted for recommendation letters. The letters will assess the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.
Academic and Test Scores
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from national tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program is also considered.
International examination scores are also accepted. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Candidates must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination, among others.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their interview performance. Students with a strong academic record will receive an interview invitation. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant discipline. The interview assesses overall suitability for the program.
