IIT Delhi is accepting applications for PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs for international students. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 . Interested students can submit applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal atinternational.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Eligibility
Foreign nationals are eligible. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. This requires a self-declaration of their language skills.
Application Requirements
Candidates need to provide the names of two referees. These referees will submit recommendation letters. The letters will assess the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, and English skills. Official notification stated referees will comment on “overall aptitude, proficiency in chosen field, potential for research and independent thinking and proficiency in oral and written English.”.
Submission of scores from standardized tests may be required. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) is also mentioned.
International examination scores are also considered. These include Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
English proficiency test scores are mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be accepted.
Selection Process
Admission decisions will be based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant discipline. “Candidates with a strong academic record will be invited for an interview with a committee comprising faculty members of the relevant discipline,” IIT Delhi stated.
