The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , at 4:00 PM. Prospective students can apply online via the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility and Requirements
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Applicants must provide a statement or self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to submit the names of two referees who will provide recommendation letters. These referees will assess the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.
Admission to PhD and PG programs may require scores from national-level Indian entrance exams such as Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE). International examination scores, including Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT), can also be submitted.
Candidates must also present scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination, or other similar assessments.
Admission Process
IIT Delhi will grant admission based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee in their chosen discipline. The interview committee will evaluate candidates’ suitability for the program.
