IIT Delhi has opened admissions for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs to international students . Applications are accepted for the academic year 2026-27 . The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m.
Admission Details
Foreign nationals, including Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cardholders, are eligible. The application portal is located at international.iitd.ac.in.
Applicants must submit a statement or self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees for recommendation letters. Referees will assess a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.
Eligibility and Requirements
Admission may require scores from national-level entrance examinations. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. Scores from international exams like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also considered.
English language proficiency test scores are mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Applicants with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from the relevant department. This process aims to evaluate a candidate’s suitability for research and advanced study.
