The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs for the 2026-27 academic year. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , at 4:00 PM IST. Prospective students can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility Requirements
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency. They will need to provide a self-declaration of their English skills.
Application Process
Candidates must nominate two referees who can provide recommendation letters. These referees will be contacted to assess the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills. The admission process also considers scores from various standardized tests.
Required Test Scores
Depending on the program, applicants may need to submit scores from the following examinations:
- Indian National Tests: GATE, CSIR, UGC NET, DST INSPIRE.
- International Tests: GRE, GMAT.
- English Proficiency Tests: TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, Cambridge English Examination, or similar.
Selection Criteria
IIT Delhi will base admissions on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from the relevant department. The interview panel will evaluate candidates’ suitability for the chosen program.
