About This Scholarship

The Grant of Additional Scholarship to OBC Students for Higher Studies, Andaman & Nicobar 2025-26 is an important initiative by the Directorate of Social Welfare, Andaman & Nicobar Administration. This scheme aims to provide crucial financial assistance to students belonging to the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category within the Union Territory of Andaman & Nicobar.

The scholarship is specifically designed to support students who have successfully completed their Class 10 or 12 examinations and are now pursuing higher education. It encourages academic advancement by alleviating some of the financial burdens associated with advanced studies.

Selected candidates will receive a significant monthly scholarship to aid their educational journey. The application deadline for this opportunity is October 31, 2025.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, an applicant must:-
• be an Indian citizen and a domicile of Andaman and Nicobar Islands
• belong to the Other Backwards Class (OBC) category
• have passed Class 10 or 12 from a recognised Board of School Education
• be a full-time student pursuing higher studies in any government-recognised institution approved by AICTE/UGC or equivalent bodies anywhere in India. This includes:
• Graduate degrees (e.g., B.A., B.Sc., B.Com.): All courses leading to a bachelor's degree
• Postgraduate degrees (e.g., M.A., M.Sc., M.Com., M.Ed., M.Pharma.): All courses leading to a master's degree
• Professional degrees (e.g., C.A., ICWA, CS, ICFA): Chartered Accountancy, Institute of Cost Accountants of India, Company Secretary, Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India programs
• Research degrees (e.g., M.Phil., Ph.D., Postdoctoral): Master of Philosophy, Doctor of Philosophy, and Postdoctoral research programs
• Professional fields: Degree and postgraduate-level courses including M.Phil., Ph.D., and postdoctoral research in Medicine (Allopathy, Indian and other recognised systems), Engineering, Technology, Planning, Architecture, Design, Fashion Technology, Agriculture, Veterinary and Allied Sciences, Management, Business Finance/Administration, Computer Science/Applications, etc.
• Postgraduate diploma courses in various branches of Management and Medicine, Commercial Pilot License (including helicopter pilot and multi-engine rating), etc.
• Graduate/Postgraduate courses diploma/certificate programs in Pharmacy (B.Pharm), Nursing (B. Nursing), LLB, BFS, other paramedical branches like Rehabilitation Diagnostics, Mass Communication, Hotel Management & Catering, Travel/Tourism/Hospitality Management, Interior Decoration, Nutrition & Dietetics, Commercial Art, Financial Services (e.g., Banking, Insurance, Taxation), etc., where the minimum educational qualification is senior secondary (Class 12)
• Post-matriculation (non-degree) courses: Programs requiring vocational stream completion, ITI courses, or 3-year diploma courses in polytechnics.

Note:-
• The scholarship is awarded annually, subject to passing the previous year/semester.
• If the Head of the Institution reports a scholar's misconduct, such as strikes or irregular attendance, the scholarship-granting authority may revoke or suspend the scholarship partially/fully for a specific period. Reasons for such action will be documented.
• Students repeating a previously completed stage/level of education in a different subject/stream will not be eligible (e.g., B.Sc. after B.A., B.Com. after B.A., or pursuing an M.A. in a different subject after completing an M.A. or equivalent in another subject).
• Students who complete one professional course and wish to pursue another (e.g., LLB after B.T./B.Ed.) are also ineligible for renewal.
• Students who fail to complete a course for which they received the scholarship may be eligible for the scholarship again if they enrol in a different recognised professional, technical, certificate, diploma, or degree course. However, the scholarship will only be awarded for the remaining duration of the new program, excluding the period for which they previously received the scholarship.
• Students failing the same class for more than one year will lose eligibility for the scholarship in subsequent years.

Note:-
• Students pursuing postgraduate courses in medicine shall be eligible for this scholarship, provided they are not allowed to practice during the period of their course.
• Only two children of the same parent/guardian are eligible for this scholarship. However, if there is a multiple birth following a second live birth, all children from that birth are eligible for the scholarship.

Required Documents

Applicants must provide the following required documents:
• Income certificate
• One self-attested copy of each certificate for Class 10 or 12 diploma/degree
• One passport-sized photograph of the student with their signature
• Self-attested copy of caste certificate signed by an authorized revenue officer, not below the rank of Tehsildar
• Non-creamy layer certificate (original and one self-attested copy) signed by an authorised revenue officer, not below the rank of Tehsildar
• An income declaration by the parent(s)/guardian(s) on an affidavit on ₹10 non-judicial stamp paper stating substantial income from all sources. For government employees, a copy of the pay slip attested by the concerned Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO) can be submitted instead of an affidavit.
• Copy of marks statement duly countersigned by the Head of the Institution
• Self-attested copies of an Aadhaar card and the first page of the bank passbook

How to Apply

Eligible applicants can apply by following these steps:-
1. Step 1: Click on the 'Apply Now' button on the official website.
2. Step 2: Click on the 'Register' button and fill in the required registration details. (Note:- If already registered, log in using Gmail/Mobile number/Email ID).
3. Step 3: Navigate to the 'Students' option on the left-hand side of the dashboard and click on it.
4. Step 4: Now, click on the 'Login' button under the OTR option, as it is required to apply for a scholarship on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
5. Step 5: Click on the 'New user? Register yourself' on the left-hand side of the dashboard and click on it.
6. Step 6: Read the details carefully, tick the checkbox, and click on the 'Next' button.
7. Step 7: Enter a functional mobile number, captcha code, and OTP, then submit to complete the registration process.
8. Step 8: Fill in the required details and click on 'Save & Register' to complete the 'One-time registration (OTR)' process. (Note:- This is a temporary registration number, students need to download the OTR mobile application for face authentication to complete the OTR process.)
9. Step 9: After successful registration, navigate to the 'Apply for Scholarship' option and click on the 'Login' button.
10. Step 10: Select the scholarship, fill in the required details, upload the necessary documents and submit.

Note:- All applicants are advised to fill in the information correctly on the application form. Once the application is submitted, no changes can be made. Additionally, submitting multiple applications will result in disqualification.
