IIT Delhi opened its application portal for international students seeking admission to PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline for applications is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m. Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible.
Application Process
Interested candidates must apply online at international.iitd.ac.in. The application window closes on March 30, 2026. Applicants need to submit a statement of English proficiency. They must also provide the names of two referees for recommendation letters. Referees will assess candidates’ aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.
Eligibility and Requirements
Admission to PhD and PG programs may require scores from specific entrance exams. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program. International exam scores like Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also considered.
International students must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination, among others.
Selection Criteria
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Applicants with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from the relevant discipline. The interview panel will evaluate the candidate’s suitability for the program.

Admissions are for the academic years 2026-27 .
