IIT Delhi is now accepting applications for PhD and postgraduate programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Interested candidates can apply online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Eligibility and Requirements
Applications are open to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a statement declaring their English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees for recommendation letters.
Referees will assess candidates on their overall aptitude, field-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. This information is detailed in the official admission notification.
Required Test Scores
Eligibility for PhD and postgraduate programs may require scores from national examinations such as the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) is also mentioned.
International examination scores are also accepted. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Selection Process
Admission will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to an interview. A committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline will conduct these interviews.
Applicants must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be considered.

The admission portal for foreign national candidates closes at 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026 . This is for admission to the academic year 2026-27.
