IIT Delhi is now accepting applications for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026, at 4 p.m.
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Applications can be submitted online via the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency. This can be done through a self-declaration statement. They also need to provide names and contact details for two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
Referees will assess candidates on aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. This information is detailed in the official admission notification.
To be considered for PhD and PG programs, candidates may need to submit scores from national eligibility tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program.
International examination scores are also accepted. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Selection Process
Admission to IIT Delhi programs will be based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline.
Additionally, applicants must submit scores from recognized English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination.
