IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students Open

IIT Delhi is accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m. Interested candidates can apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website: international.iitd.ac.in .

Eligibility and Application Requirements

Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who can submit recommendation letters.

Referees will assess candidates on their aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills. The official notification stated, “The referees will be asked to comment on the candidate’s overall aptitude, proficiency in chosen field, potential for research and independent thinking and proficiency in oral and written English.”

Admission Criteria

Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs may require scores from national-level entrance exams. These can include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program.

International examination scores are also considered. Eligible tests include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Candidates must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination.

Selection Process

The final selection for the programs will be based on an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to participate. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline. The institute stated, “Candidates with a strong academic record will be invited for an interview with a committee comprising faculty members of the relevant discipline.”
