IIT Delhi PhD, PG Admissions Open for International Students

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline for international students is March 30, 2026 . Applications are open for the academic year 2026-27. Interested students can apply via the official IIT Delhi international admissions website:international.iitd.ac.in.

Admission Requirements

Eligibility extends to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Candidates must submit a statement of English proficiency. They must also provide names of two referees for recommendation letters.

Referees will assess applicants’ aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills. This assessment is outlined in the official admission notification.

Academic and Language Proficiency Tests

Applicants may need to submit scores from specific national and international tests. These include:

  • National Tests: Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), and Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE).
  • International Tests: Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).

English language proficiency must be demonstrated through tests like TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination. IIT Delhi may accept other recognized language tests.

Selection Process

Admission decisions will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. The interview assesses their suitability for the program.
