The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs to international students. Applications are due by March 30, 2026 . Interested candidates can apply online at international.iitd.ac.in .
Eligibility Criteria
Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Applicants must submit a statement of English proficiency. They will also need to provide the names of two referees for recommendation letters.
Referees will assess candidates’ aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. This assessment is part of the application review process.
Admission Requirements
IIT Delhi may require scores from national-level entrance exams for PhD and PG programs. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE.
International examination scores are also considered. These may include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Proof of English language proficiency is mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination, among others.
Selection Process
Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs is based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records receive invitations for interviews.
An interview committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline will conduct the assessment. The committee evaluates candidates’ suitability for the chosen program.
