IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students Open

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m. Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Admissions are for the academic years 2026-27.

Application Process

Interested candidates must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website: international.iitd.ac.in . Applicants need to submit a statement confirming their English proficiency. They must also provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.

The referees will be asked to evaluate candidates on their aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. This information is detailed in the official notification.

Eligibility Criteria

In addition to referee recommendations and English proficiency, candidates may need to submit scores from specific entrance examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International exam scores like Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also considered.

English language proficiency must be demonstrated through scores from tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or the Cambridge English Examination.

Selection

Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs for international students is based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from the relevant discipline. The institute will assess their overall suitability for the program.
