The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs to international students for the 2026-27 academic year. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 .
Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Applications are being accepted through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in. The portal closes at 4 pm on the deadline date.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must submit a statement of English proficiency. They will also need to provide names of two referees who can submit recommendation letters. These referees will be asked to comment on a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may also require scores from standardized tests. These can include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) examinations.
International examination scores are also accepted. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Candidates may also need to submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will base admissions on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for interviews. These interviews will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline.
