IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 , at 4 PM. Eligibility and Application Requirements
The programs are open to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must provide a statement of English language proficiency. They also need to nominate two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will be asked to assess the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking skills, and English communication abilities.
Academic and Test Score Requirements
Admission to PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These can include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the DST INSPIRE program. International students may also submit scores from exams like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Furthermore, proof of English language proficiency is mandatory. Accepted test scores include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or the Cambridge English Examination. Candidates must submit these scores as part of their application.
Admission Process
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their interview performance. Applicants with strong academic records will receive an invitation to interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline. This process evaluates candidates’ suitability for advanced study and research at the institute.
