The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for international students to its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. Applications are accepted through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website until March 30, 2026 . The application portal closes at 4 PM on this date.
Eligibility and Application Process
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a statement declaring their English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
These referees will assess the candidate’s overall aptitude, field-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking skills, and English language abilities.
Required Examinations and Scores
Admission requirements may include scores from national-level Indian entrance exams. These can include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program.
International examination scores are also considered. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Furthermore, candidates must demonstrate English language proficiency. This can be proven through scores from tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or the Cambridge English Examination.
Admission Selection
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Those with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. The institute will make admission decisions following these interviews.
