IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students 2026

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened applications for international students seeking admission to its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline for applications is March 30, 2026, 4:00 PM IST .

Admissions Overview

Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applications are for the academic year 2026-27. Interested students can apply online via the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in .

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit a statement declaring their English proficiency. They must also provide names of two referees. These referees will be contacted to provide recommendation letters. The recommendations will assess candidates’ aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.

Eligibility Criteria

Standard eligibility includes submitting scores from recognized entrance examinations. For PhD and PG programs, these may include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International candidates can also submit Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) scores.

Proof of English language proficiency is mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Candidates must provide their scores from these assessments.

Selection Process

Admission to IIT Delhi programs will be based on candidate performance in an interview. Those with strong academic records will receive interview invitations. The interviews will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant departments.
