The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs to international students. Applications are being accepted until March 30, 2026 . Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply.
Admissions Process
Interested candidates must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal atinternational.iitd.ac.in. The portal will close at 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026.
Application Requirements
Applicants need to submit a statement or self-declaration of English proficiency. They must also provide names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will be asked to comment on the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English skills.
Eligibility and Scores
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from national-level entrance exams. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International examination scores such as Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be considered.
Furthermore, applicants must submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination, among others.
Selection Criteria
Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG courses will be based on an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to an interview with a faculty committee from the relevant discipline.
