IIT Delhi has opened applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs to international students. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 . Admissions are for the academic year 2026-2027.
Eligibility and Application
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. They need to provide a self-declaration of their English language skills.
Candidates must also submit the names of two referees. These referees will provide recommendation letters. The referees will evaluate the applicant’s aptitude and research potential. They will comment on oral and written English skills.
Required Scores
IIT Delhi may require scores from national or international standardized tests. For PhD and PG programs, applicants might need to submit scores from tests such as:
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
- Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
- University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
- DST INSPIRE
Scores from international examinations like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be considered.
Admission Process
Admission is based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited. A committee of faculty members will conduct the interview. The committee assesses suitability for the specific discipline.
Proof of English language proficiency is also mandatory. Applicants must submit scores from tests like TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, or Cambridge English Examination. Other recognized language tests may also be accepted.

Applications are accepted online. Prospective students should visit the official IIT Delhi international admissions website: international.iitd.ac.in . The application portal closes at 4:00 PM on March 30, 2026.
