Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 .
Foreign nationals can apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in . Applications will be accepted until 4 p.m. on the closing date for the 2026-27 academic year.
Eligibility extends to non-Indian nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards.
Application Requirements
Applicants must provide a statement of English proficiency. They also need to submit the names of two referees who will provide recommendation letters. These referees will be asked to comment on a candidate’s aptitude, field-specific skills, research potential, independent thinking, and English language abilities.
IIT Delhi may require scores from standardized tests. These can include:
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
- Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
- University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
- DST INSPIRE
International examination scores are also accepted, such as:
- Graduate Records Examination (GRE)
- Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)
English language proficiency test scores are mandatory. Accepted tests include:
- TOEFL
- IELTS
- TOEIC
- OPI
- OPIC
- Cambridge English Examination
- Other equivalent language tests
Admission Process
Admission decisions will be based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview with a faculty committee from the relevant discipline. The committee will assess the candidate’s suitability for the program.
