IIT Delhi PhD/PG Admissions for International Students

IIT Delhi is accepting applications for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The deadline for submitting applications is March 30, 2026 . Prospective students can apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website at international.iitd.ac.in.

Eligibility and Application Requirements

The programs are open to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must provide a self-declaration of English language proficiency. They also need to submit the names of two referees who can provide recommendation letters.

Referees will evaluate candidates on their aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills. This information is according to the official notification from IIT Delhi.

Academic and Language Proficiency Scores

Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from specific entrance examinations. These include India’s Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the DST INSPIRE program.

International candidates can also submit scores from standardized tests like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). English language proficiency must be demonstrated through tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examinations.

Admission Process

Admission decisions will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to an interview panel. This panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline. The interview will assess the candidate’s suitability for the program.
