Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline for international students to apply is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m. Interested candidates can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website:international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility and Application Requirements
The application window is open to foreign nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. This can be done through a self-declaration statement.
Candidates are also required to provide the names of two referees. These referees will submit recommendation letters. The referees will be asked to comment on the applicant’s aptitude, subject proficiency, research potential, independent thinking skills, and English language abilities.
Academic and Standardized Test Scores
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from specific standardized tests. These include India’s Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) scheme.
IIT Delhi also accepts scores from international examinations. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). English language proficiency test scores may also be necessary. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examinations.
Admission Process
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Applicants with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. The interview panel will assess the candidate’s suitability for the program.
